Dieng also means “House of the Gods’ and is located between the cities of Java, Bandung and Yogyakarta.
Dieng Plateau is a flat terrain surrounded by mountain ranges located between Bandung and Yogyakarta. Over 400 temples are scattered about the region at more than 2,000 meters high dating from the 8th and 9th centuries.
At the entrance of this plateau the complex of temples is called Pandawa Temple, consisting of other temples, namely Semar, Arjuna, Srikandi, Sembadra and Puntadewa and they are all Hindu Temples. Deeper into the plateau you will find many other temples.
But one of the main reason people come here is the spectacular scenery. Dieng Plateau is a vast plain which were once active volcanoes. In the area you will find mountains and beautiful lakes. You will find even geysers and sulfur springs like Kawah Sikidang. For the smell, you do not go here but it’s certainly a nice spectacle. You can also hike to the highest village in Java; Sembungan.
The sunrise here is something you will always remember, so beautiful.
There are also two lakes; the Telaga Warna and Telaga Pengilon and they are located close to each other. You will also find around the lakes many caves, like the Semar, Sumur and the Jaran. Dieng plateau has also three craters, namely the Sikidang, Candradimuka and Sileri and they produce a bad smell because of the sulfur.
Also famous is the spring where the water of the Serayu River comes from
Most travelers leave for the Dieng Plateau from Wonosobo but you can also stay in the small village of Dieng. Anyways we recommend riding the route from Wonosobo to Dieng. This route takes you along namely beautiful valleys and rice fields.
